Intrinsa patches are a prescription hormone treatment to help women who suffer from female sexual dysfunction (FSD). Intrinsa patches are applied directly onto your skin usually around the abdominal area. The active substance in an Intrinsa patch is testosterone, which is absorbed by your skin and then released in small doses directly into your bloodstream.

What are the benefits of Intrinsa?

Intrinsa patches offer women a safe and convenient method to restoring low libido. These easy to wear patches provide a consistent dosage rate to the bloodstream so that a stable level of testosterone can be maintained to help raise your libido. Not only will this improve women’s sex life and levels of desire, but it can also help to heal and control psychological issues that can results from female sexual dysfunction.

How does Intrinsa work?

The active substance in Intrinsa is testosterone, a natural sex hormone produced in men and to a lesser extent in women. Although less prevalent in women, testosterone is still an important part of the female sexual function and low testosterone can cause low sexual desire and reduced sexual arousal. These problems can cause personal distress, insecurity or relationship difficulties. This female testosterone replacement treatment allows testosterone levels to return to normal, and can help to restore your sex drive.

Who is suitable to take Intrinsa?

The Intrinsa patch has been developed for the treatment of low sexual desire in women up to the age of 60. Women who can benefit most from taking Intrinsa are those who:
  • Have low sexual desire which is causing distress or concern
  • Have had both ovaries removed
  • Have had a hysterectomy
  • Are receiving oestrogen therapy
How do I take Intrinsa?
Intrinsa is available in packs of 2, 8 and 24 patches, which can all be used as a continuous treatment. A new patch should be applied every 3 to 4 days on to dry, clean skin on the lower abdomen. The same spot on the abdomen must not be used again until at least 7 days later.
It may take longer than one month to notice an improvement after taking Intrinsa. If no positive effects show within 3-6 months, users should inform their doctor, who may suggest that the treatment be discontinued.
Intrinsa side effects
Mild to moderate side effects including itching, rash and redness of the skin, may occur for every 1 in 10 users. These temporary irritations usually disappear shortly after beginning the treatment. Users may experience more serious side effects if they suffer from any of the following conditions:
  • A history of heart, liver or kidney disease
  • Diabetes, as testosterone may lower blood glucose levels
  • A history of excessive adult acne, body or facial hair, hair loss
