Is the Marriage Visa Really That Hard to Get?
By Art Saborio
Is the K1 Visa truly a complicated hard process to go through? The marriage visa can quickly turn into a very complicated process. A lot of times the information that is provided by the USCIS website is not complete enough to finish the application. The work instructions that are found on the internet are written by a department that is not directly related to the department which reviews the application. The instructions are often times written vaguely and some parts are left up to interpretation. In these situations, you hope you make the right interpretation and not make the wrong decision.
If you have any knowledge of the immigration process, it may be a little easier for you to get through the process than most. Yet if you have no experience at all, then it is not recommended to go about it on your own without someone to help you along the way.
Some of the roadblocks you might run into are:
- Not understanding what documentation is truly needed to show proof of the on-going relationship. Just having a one or two forms of proof is really not good enough.
- Not understanding how to go about putting the application together in the right format. There is a certain format that the USCIS likes to see. Organization and neatness is a must.
- Not understanding what documentation needs to be notarized. What documents need to be notarized and when the notarization should take place. There are limits to how old a document can be before it is considered expired. Even if the document contains a stamp of notarization it still will not be accepted.
- Not understanding all the supporting documentation that needs to be sent along with the I-129F application. What are actual documents that are needed to increase the chances of success? Often times a person will only submit the minimal documentation and find themselves in a situation where their application is delayed. If the wrong documentation is submitted or there is a lack of documentation, the officer may delay the application process until the proper documentation is submitted.
